Day 3 of the Headspace 10-day meditation challenge for beginners
Never. Drinking. Again.
If I’m being honest, my drinking yesterday is adversely affecting my meditation today. We go out on Thursdays (shout out to the Thursday Club!), so I was expecting slight turbulence. But overall I’m still not prepared for how bad I feel after I drink these days.
Can we talk about this? Does everyone become a lightweight when they turn 40 or is it just me? I mean, it’s a mental health emergency!
Isn’t it ironic?
Then, while getting the kids out of the car this morning, I hurt my back. So now breathing hurts. All of this before I take a work vacation, meaning I may not be able to do much during my free time. Cue Alanis Morissette’s Ironic.

Meditation Station
Today’s metaphysical issue is that I’m trying to work on my mind but my body is all jacked up. I took the suggestion from a Thursday Club Kid–I just wanted to say “Club Kid“–and meditated in my new hanging egg chair. (There’s a joke about balls in there somewhere.)
The chair has a neck pillow that supports my aching head. And the gentle rocking was soothing to my aching back.

Cars drive by with the boomin’ system
The Day 3 lesson was about changing the relationship with our thoughts. The analogy was watching the traffic pass by but not being distracted by it.
Our host talked a lot less than in previous days, which was nice, but because I’m such a sad sack today I almost fell asleep. Luckily, I was SAVED from total relaxation by the gardener and his VERY LOUD lawn mower!
I have accepted that my house will never be quiet. But I am definitely getting better at blocking it out. *Ignores entire family*
